Sunderland: League Champions and 'Team of the All the Talents' win at Burnley in April 1893 and by scoring three take their league total to 100 goals

Burnleys recent victories have roused a lot of enthusiasm in the town and a crowd of 10,000 turned up to see the last game of the season against league Champions Sunderland. Home partisans had nurtured hopes of a victory but playing with the wind in the 1st half Sunderland soon began show their superiority and scored after 20 minutes play. Two more were added in the next 15 minutes as Burnley struggled to cope with the visitors attack.

 

When Harvie scored Sunderland's 3rd goal they became the first team to score 100 league goals in a season. Sunderland led 3-0 at the interval but in the 2nd half Burnley showed up to much better advantage and opened their account after 60 minutes. This success encouraged the home side and roared on by the crowd they pulled another goal back. This was the limit of their success however and they had to be content with 2 goals as Sunderland recorded another victory.                                   (Newc Dly Ldr)
